Le 15 décembre 2012 disparaissait Sombath Somphone. Personnalité éminente de la société civile du Laos et engagé auprès des communautés villageoises, Sombath Somphone a créé en 1996 le centre de formation pour le développement participatif (Participatory Development Training Center- PADETC…) pour soutenir la participation de tous au développement durable et inclusif du Laos.(ambassade de France au Laos-ສະຖານທູດຝຣັ່ງ ປະຈຳ ສປປລາວ)
Today is the 8th anniversary of the disappearance of Dr Sombath Somphone. He was a respected teacher and development worker: we joined his family at a recent event to mark his disappearance. At the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights in Laos, held in Geneva in January this year, the British government called for Laos to undertake impartial, thorough, and transparent investigations into all enforced disappearances, including Dr Sombath Somphone.
Today, December 15, marks the eight anniversary of the disappearance of community development worker and civil-society leader Sombath Somphone. The EU reiterates its call to the Lao Government for a conclusion of this case. The EU also urges Lao PDR to ratify and implement the Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance and to investigate all cases of alleged enforced disappearances. 📍Today is 15 December 2020, the 8th anniversary of the #EnforcedDisappearance of #Lao #CivilSociety leader Sombath Somphone. Today marks 8 years of unbearably long waiting time for Sombath’s family and friends, 8 years during which they have been worrying, wondering, hoping, asking nothing more than to know the truth about Sombath’s disappearance. While #Lao authorities repeatedly claimed they have been investigating Sombath’s #EnforcedDisappearance, they have failed to disclose any new findings to the public since 8 June 2013, and they haven’t even met with Sombath’s wife, nor provided her with any updates on their investigation into his case since December 2017.
📣 Manushya Foundation urges the #Lao government to thoroughly, independently and impartially investigate the case of Sombath and reveal his fate and whereabouts, so that his family can finally learn the truth about his disappearance and find some peace.
